Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing

It may be the influence of the Great British Bake Off or just because I love a sweet treat but I have been getting into some serious baking! Over the weekend I tried out these Cinnamon Rolls for a friends dinner party and they turned out wonderfully!

Perfect with a cup of tea or some ice cream!

Buns
1 Cup Milk
1/2 Cup Sugar
3 Tsp Yeast
75g Melted Butter
2 Eggs, room temperature
1 Tsp Salt
5 Cups Flour

Filling
75g Butter
1 Cup Brown Sugar
3 Tsp All Spice

Icing
50g Cream Cheese
300g Icing Sugar
Vanilla Pod
30g Butter

Combine Milk and Sugar then add the yeast (make sure the milk is room temperature). Let sit for 5 minutes. Add butter, eggs, salt and 2 cups of the flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until mixed and then add a cup of flour at a time until you have dough. Knead for about 10 mins making sure the dough is not sticky. Place in a greased glass bowl, cover and place in warm place to rise for 1 hour.

Roll dough out to about 15x20 inches. Mix the filling ingredients and spread onto dough. Roll from the long edge & cut into twelve equal pieces. Transfer to a greased baking dish, cover and leave to rise for a further 30 minutes.

Bake rolls for 18~20 minutes at 200 degrees until golden brown & touching each other. Whilst baking make icing but mixing the ingredients together.

Tastes to Enjoy!

If you follow this blog, you will know that apart from my obvious love of fashion, my next greatest passion is food! I adore trying new restaurants in London and other parts of the world when I have the chance.

Saying this though there is nothing better than cooking up a storm in your very own kitchen!

As I often work from home, I am lucky not to spend time commuting and have been trying to cook as often as possible. Last week, I cooked something that was so very easy yet enjoyable that I thought I would share!

Fig Jam
8 Ripe Figs
3 Whole Star Anise
4 Tablespoons Light Muscovado Sugar
2 Tablespoons Elderflower Vinegar (or balsamic if you can’t find this)

Place all ingredients in a small frying pan and bring to the boil then simmer for approx 45mins (the figs will start to break down and the mixture will become thick)

I like to then blend mine but you can have it nice and chunky if you prefer!

Serve with toasted ciabatta bread, goat’s cheese and rocket - simple!

Roast Sweet Potato, Chilli and Coconut Soup
2 Large Sweet Potatoes
4 Carrots
1 Onion
400ml Can Coconut Milk
1 Cup of Chicken Stock
1-2 Red Chillis
1 Tablespoon of Ground Coriander
Fresh Coriander
Salt & Pepper to taste

Boil the whole sweet potatoes for approx 5 mins and then put in a roasting dish to cook for 1-11/2 hours depending on the size (make sure to pierce the potatoes if they are whole).

Place the carrots, onion and ground coriander in another roasting dish and cook for 1-2 hours (boil the carrots first if you don’t have this amount of time).

Add the roasted vegetables, chillis, stock, coconut milk and fresh coriander to a saucepan. Use a hand held blender and add in more stock if you please!!

Your Coffee Break

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to catch up with the lovely Rosa and Charlotte from Your Coffee Break http://www.yourcoffeebreak.co.uk/ a very cool lifestyle site that includes fashion, beauty, dining, celebrities, career advice and travel. It's the perfect online magazine to immerse yourself in, over a cup of tea on a cosy evening.

Although my visit to the girls was very fleeting as we were getting ready to exhibit our SS14 collection in NY, it was nice to put lovely faces to names. While I was away the girls were regulars on the FROW at LFW and wore pieces from our AW13 collection and looked gorgeous!

Charlotte wears Faded Nostalgia Dress in teal velvet and Wistful Thoughts Dress in printed silk.

NY, NY I couldn't love you more.....

Out of all the cities we will visit in a lifetime, some stain the memory indelibly. New York is one of these cities. There is no other place that makes one feel as inspired or alive as the city that never sleeps. For this reason, NY seems like the fitting place to show the new collection - SS14 The Effect of Butterflies.

We arrived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn late Saturday night and set off to explore our neighbourhood! We didn't have too walk far to find "Station" http://www.stationnyc.com/- a cool yet elegant outdoor restaurant which is famous for its delightful array of ingredients on sourdough toast like Ricotta, Blood Orange,‎‎ Basil & Apricot Marmalade. Washed down with a few glasses of thick, rich Malbec, we had an early night ready to show at Capsule over the next few days.

Showing at Capsule was a first for us and something we hope to continue to get our brand into the US market http://www.capsuleshow.com/ It was amazing to hear first hand feedback from buyers and to meet retailers from the Middle East, Asia and the US that we would have never normally had the opportunity to connect with.

But a work trip to NY wouldn't be complete without giving ourselves a few days after Capsule to further explore a city that we both love so much. The restaurant scene is second to none and every place we visited we loved - http://www.themeatballshop.com/ for a hearty lunch of meatballs in sweet brioche and refreshing peach sangria, Shelter for delicious pizza and beer and http://public-nyc.com/ for cocktails and fancy dishes for our final night were our favourites.

I also got to visit the most beautiful boutique that we stock our AW13 collection in, Gabriela De La Vega http://www.gabrieladelavega.com/ & spent some time with Gabriela herself who is an amazing jewellery designer as well as the ower of the store.

Catching up with long lost friends, shopping in the vintage stores in Brooklyn, visiting Catbird for gorgeous jewels, picnicking in Central Park and riding our bikes into the centre of Manhattan + over the Brooklyn Bridge were other highlights of a lovely holiday (with a little work thrown in!)

See you again soon NYC!!!

Introducing SS14 The Effect of Butterflies

He was a collector. Not necessarily of all things beautiful, just objects of interest that came his way. Things that made an impression on him and made him think of days gone by.

He was good with his hands. He would collect these pieces and recreate something magical – sometimes for others, mostly for her. Whittling away the hours, he would think of nothing but their past together.
It started so long ago when he would gather little trinkets on their travels to remind himself that he was so full of life.....
His house was full of these collectables now. Delicate butterfly’s pinned to boards in vibrant blues and pinks, vivid red silks and Italian laces from trips to exotic lands, yellow wild flowers looped together in bunches and tribal jewellery she’d once worn with pride.
The butterflies were what he treasured most though. He had found the carcass of a butterfly once that had wings so dry, it turned to dust upon his touch. Right there in his hands until the smudge of colour was just that and nothing more.

That single moment defined his love for her. She was a butterfly; a free spirit, beautiful, full of life. And he knew from then on, the effect she had on him would define his very being......
